A man and a woman were yesterday charged with lying under oath.

Joseph Azzopardi, 40, and Caroline Mangion, 29, both of Hamrun, pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against them.

Azzopardi had appealed from a court case in which he was jailed for two-and-half years for seriously injuring a woman. The Appeals Court had reduced his jail term to 10 months and ordered the police to take action against him and Mangion for lying under oath during that case.

Police Inspector Carlo Ellul prosecuted.

Dr Vincent Galea appeared for the defendants.
