14 acute Hepatitis C cases since 1996
Since 1996, 14 reports of acute Hepatitis C have been reported to the Department of Health.
Health Minister Louis Deguara told Labour MP Carmelo Abela that to protect the iden-tity of the victims he did not see it fit to break down the number of cases either by sex or nationality.
Hepatitis C is transmitted through the use of syringes by more than one person, through sexual intercourse and to a baby during delivery.
Dr Deguara said blood used for blood transfusions was tested for Hepatitis C.
