A delegation from the Union Haddiema Maghqudin yesterday visited the premises of Allied Newspapers Ltd in Valletta as part of the activities marking the union's 38th anniversary.

The delegation was made up of top union officials and the manufacturing and services section secretary. The UHM officials lauded the professional way in which the company was being managed.

Allied Newspapers Ltd's managing director, Vincent Buhagiar, accompanied by directors Adrian Hillman and Austin Bencini, said the company was continuously investing in technology and human resources.

UHM general secretary Gejtu Vella said it was important that more companies gave their employees opportunities to retrain and update themselves on technological change.

Mr Vella said a new collective agreement had strengthened the relationship between the union and Allied Newspapers Ltd. "Besides bringing about better wages and working conditions for employees, the agreement made sure the company will remain as competitive as ever," he said.

The other union officials present were president Gaetano Tanti, assistant general secretary Joe Grillo, manufacturing and services section secretary Nicholas Baldacchino and shop stewards Ronald Scicluna and Manuel Adami.
