I refer to Pamela Hansen's Opinion column (The Sunday Times, September 5), "All muck and no brass".

I quite agree that Malta in some places is in shambles, despite efforts to embellish the island.

It could be that some Maltese couldn't care less. One good point Dr Lawrence Gonzi said is that a law will be enacted shortly with harsh penalties for those who don't keep the country tidy.

I would also like to refer to the Sliema Promenade leading to St Julian's. I am sure that most Sliema residents are praying for rain so that the promenade, including Ghar id-Dud, will be washed clean, plants watered and the trees (some need a trim) also washed sparkling clean.

The promenade used to be washed clean each morning, particularly Ghar id-Dud. But I don't think it's being done any more.
