More passengers on Gozo ferries

Just under one million passengers used the Malta-Gozo ferries in the second quarter of this year, the National Statistics Office said yesterday.

The NSO said the 923,143 passengers who made the crossing between April and June was 2.1 per cent higher when compared to the same period in 2003.

The mv Malita carried the greatest number of passengers - 358,548 - in the period under review. The Ta' Pinu carried 284,215 passengers and the Gaudos carried 280,380 passengers.

A 1.3 per cent increase was registered in the number of vehicles making the crossing in the second quarter of this year over the same period in 2003. The number of cars using the ferries between April and June this year amounted to 234,135.

However, the number of trips made between the two islands decreased between the second quarter of last year and the corresponding period this year. In fact, between April and June this year a total of 4,504 trips were made, a 5.6 per cent when compared to the same period last year.
