Does the EU respect the Roman Catholic religion?

Yes. The European Union respects the Roman Catholic religion and other religions as well, both Christian and non-Christian. In its preamble, the new EU Constitution acknowledges the religious inheritance of Europe. Besides, in Article I-52, the EU Constitution declares that "the Union respects and does not prejudice the status under national law of churches and religious associations or communities in the member states" including the Catholic Church.
