Nature Trust, the environmental NGO, has welcomed the comments of Parliamentary Secretary Tonio Fenech in favour of agrotourism and organic farming.

It said it hoped the comments were truly a sign of the government's intention to support such initiatives in practice rather than being political rhetoric.

Agrotourism projects were a sustainable possibility that could improve the country's declining tourism product and a potential niche market becoming increasingly popular in Europe, especially among the younger generations, Nature Trust said.

Organic farming projects would provide the market with healthier and tastier food products, it added, urging the authorities to support the organic farms at Rabat and Kalkara.
