Over 350 questionnaires where sent to the local Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) businesses with the aim of compiling a structured and detailed enterprise listing of the ICT industry in Malta. Considering ICT to be an increasingly important contributor to the Maltese economy, the Ministry for Investment, Industry and Information Technology (MIIIT), Malta Enterprise and the Malta Chamber of Commerce have joined forces for the compilation of a national ICT business directory.
The publication seeks to promote and raise awareness of the local ICT businesses to foreign parties seeking to do business with Maltese firms. It will be mainly used in international events which seek to bring together buyers and sellers of ICT goods and services.
As confirmed in the recently published National ICT Strategy (2004-2006) the Government intends to enable and empower the local ICT industry to gain access to the larger global marketplace.
Through this survey and the publication of the Business Directory the Ministry will assist the local ICT sector by exposing their product portfolio and competencies to an international audience interested in outsourcing the production of ICT products and the provision of technology related services.
The survey is only one of a long stream of initiatives which will be co-ordinated in the coming months, with the aim of strengthening and increasing the contribution of the ICT industry to the country's economy.
Other initiatives which will be launched in the future seek to increase the number of ICT specialists in the local labour market, encourage ICT start-up companies and facilitate the provision and availability of financial assistance through private lending schemes.
This questionnaire covers all the relevant data on local enterprises operating in the ICT sector which is of interest to foreign parties seeking business partners in another country.
Participation in this initiative will be highly significant in showcasing the products and services produced by the Maltese enterprises to international markets.
All questionnaires are to be sent to Malta Enterprise by September 30. Questionnaires can either be sent to the Trade Promotion Unit at the Malta Enterprise, Enterprise Centre, Industrial Estate, San Gwann or by filling in the required details at www.maltaenterprise.com/ictfor.
