Mass in the airport chapel (4)

I could not believe my eyes when I saw the report carried in The Times (August 30) that the announcement of the daily Mass at the Malta International Airport was to be stopped due to some comments by foreign travellers.

Why is it that the Maltese authorities yielded so quickly to the wishes of some foreigners who are in Malta for just a few days for a holiday or for work? Are we now going to bow our heads to whoever comes to our country and feel they can order us around?

I find the attitude of these foreigners very arrogant, to say the least. Tourists are our guests. We welcome them and are friendly with them when they choose our island for their vacations.

But they have no right to hurt our sentiments or give us orders. We are an independent and sovereign country and able to govern ourselves.

Further still, the Catholic religion in Malta is safeguarded by the Constitution, and while other religions are tolerated, we should stick to our principles.
