A San Gwann man of Syrian origin was yesterday jailed for 18 months after he pleaded guilty to stealing the bags of two women last week.

Adel Dawah, 34, admitted to stealing the bags to the detriment of Marianna Golovkina and Andrea Sciriha on August 19 and 22, relapsing and committing the crime during the operative time of a one-year suspended jail term.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera ordered that the suspended jail term be put into effect, bringing Dawah's total jail term to two-and-a half years.

Police Inspector Geoffrey Azzopardi prosecuted.

Dr Vincent Galea was appointed legal aid for Dawah.
