Eight Valletta churches will be opening their doors for visitors on a regular basis.

The eight churches are the church of St Francis of Assisi, the parish church of St. Augustine, the sanctuary basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, St Paul's Anglican cathedral, the church of Christ The Redeemer (Sagramentini), the church of the Jesuits, the collegiate parish church of St Paul's Shipwreck and St Mary of Jesus church (Ta' Giezu).

The Malta Tourism Authority has published a brochure providing information on the churches, including a map to locate these and other interesting sites in Valletta. Copies of the brochure may be obtained from tourist information centres and the participating churches.

Information cards prepared by the MTA were distributed in the participating churches so that visitors can better appreciate the history of each church and its treasures. Visitors are encouraged to make a small donation when visiting the churches.

The MTA considers the initiative to be another step in the development of religious tourism as a niche market.
