Little Angels School, Birkirkara, forms part of a Comenius project entitled "Fiction or Reality" with partner schools in Spain and Germany.
Pupils aged six to 11 are involved in the project. In the second year the focus of the Comenius activities were on two aspects. During the first term, the pupils along with their teachers focussed on the fictional element of the project by practising a game of Quidditch at the school.
The game was based on the one played by the students at Hogworths in the Harry Potter stories. This game was also played by the pupils in all the partner schools with some variations. Videos of the game being played were then exchanged during the co-ordinator's visit to Leipzig, Germany.
During the second and third terms, the pupils tackled the reality element of the project. Education and schools in Malta in the past was the theme for the activities during these two terms. These topics were explored by means of talks by relatives of the pupils who lived their school days during the war.
Some pupilts also worked on a questionnaire that dealt with school days in the past. This questionnaire was then handed out to grandparents. The pupils in the lower junior classes, along with their teachers, prepared a re-enactment of various traditional Maltese children's games.
The children in the partner schools covered the same topics and information was exchanged when members of these two schools visited Malta in May. Two German children followed lessons at the Little Angels school and were hosted by one of the pupils.
The topics to be dealt with during the next scholastic year, the project's third and final year, will be education and schools in the present and the future, keeping in mind the title of the project "Fiction or Reality".
