Part-time custodians at St John's co-cathedral will be compensated for the benefits they were entitled to, but have never enjoyed, after an agreement was reached yesterday between the General Workers' Union and the St John's Co-Cathedral Foundation.

The agreement was reached during a conciliatory meeting presided over by Frank Pullicino, director of industrial relations and labour. The union, which represents the custodians, had registered an industrial dispute with the foundation on Tuesday.

During yesterday's meeting it was also agreed that there should be further discussion on the working conditions of part-time custodians.

Talks are expected to continue on Friday.
