The Malta Environment and Planning Authority's Development Control Commission will decide tomorrow whether to allow the construction of a waste sorting plant in Wied Garnaw, according to the the Save Wied Garnaw Action Group.

The action group said around 3,700 people had signed a petition against the plant which was presented to MEPA. Around 6,000 people also signed a separate but similar petition which was presented to Parliament by a local MP.

"The action group is fully in favour of waste recycling but believes it would be a tragic mistake to site such an activity in open countryside, which is at such a premium in Malta."
