I have just read the book The Islets of Comino, Filfla, Hagret il-General and the Volcanic One (Graham) that Was by Dr Charles J. Boffa. I have found this book of great interest as it provides a wide vista of the historical, topographical and natural aspects of these islets.

It is certainly the result of much research because it covers the topic in exhaustive detail that includes the maritime element, bird life and some aspects of the distant past.

The study about Hagret il-General, with its past medical links and the chapter about the volcanic isle that appeared in 1831, make particularly interesting reading.

Personally, being used to the familiar sight of Filfla, I was fascinated by the chapter that gave some hitherto scarcely known facts about that small island.

The book is written in a style that engages the reader's interest and while it is definitely a scholarly work it is nonetheless easy to follow. The author and the publisher have produced a study that enhances our knowledge about these lesser known islets of our archipelago.
