I would like to congratulate the local councils and the Roads Department for the construction of new pavements made of cement blocks.

The only shortcoming is that nobody considered that the construction of these pavements, which are too high, together with the road tilting to allow the rain water to flow at the sides of the road rather than form puddles in the centre, can cause problems with alighting from a car once parked by the pavement.

Two such examples are the stretch of pavement near the Sirens waterpolo club and beach in St Paul's Bay and the pavement along Msida Marina on the Busy Bee confectionery side. In this particular area the driver has acrobatically to go on the passenger side to alight, then risk life and limb with the speeding traffic to reach the pavement.

Attempts at opening the car door by unsuspecting passengers also damages the car extensively. More consideration should be given to these details that can make life so much easier.
