The first group of students from the Malta College for Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) Gozo Centre went on a four-week Leonardo da Vinci work placement last month.

The six students - Frans Azzopardi, Marlon Grech, Geoffrey Attard, Joe Martin Cefai, Simon Gatt and James Lupi Spencer - returned from Dublin on August 1. They have just completed a National Diploma in Information Technology at the Xaghra campus.

While in Dublin the students were given work in networking, software development and web development. A spokesman for MCAST said the six students were all highly praised by the hosting organisations for their motivation, skills, willingness to learn new skills and their determination to succeed.

Because they were residing with host families, the students were in touch with the Irish culture, lifestyle and traditions.

During their stay in Ireland, the students also met Maltese ambassador Richard Muscat.

The placement was part of the MOVE project hosted by MCAST and financed by the Leonardo da Vinci EU programme.
