Polluters should be made to pay

For the second time in the space of a few days I had the unfortunate experience of witnessing a concrete mix spill along the newly laid road from Salini to Naxxar, up the hill past the pumping station.

The concrete mixer was coming from the road leading to Burmarrad, obviously from a batching plant in that area.

I should like to make two pleas: to the owner/s of the batching plant/s - please ensure that the concrete mixers are not overloaded and that the equipment on board is properly installed.

To the authorities: It is high time that such polluters should be made to pay heavy fines and to clear up the mess before the concrete sets. In past years that particular part of the road was ruined by continuous spills of this nature.

I need not add that the presence of wardens in this area would be a great deterrent.
