St Euplus was a deacon at Catania in Sicily. He was found with a copy of the Gospels and refused to sacrifice to the gods.

He was therefore most cruelly racked and tortured, and finally beheaded on August 12, 304. After St Agatha, St Euplus is the patron saint of Catania.
