The Footwork Basketball Club have made several key signings on the coaching front in the past month.
In a bid to make the play-offs for the first time with a team replete with talented youngsters supported by key veterans, Footwork have secured the services of the seasoned Ray Muscat as head coach for season 2004/05.
Muscat has had an illustrious career as a player, with speed and determination among his trademark qualities. Last season, Muscat steered Siggiewi to success in the Louis Borg Cup.
In his first players' meeting he expressed his excitement at being asked to coach "such a young and talented team, which showed continuous development last season".
Club director Stephen Buttigieg emphasised that Footwork were constantly searching to add quality to their coaching staff and expressed his satisfaction that Muscat had joined Footwork.
Buttigieg described Muscat as a players' coach who understood what it took to win on the court as a player and was capable of transmitting the same intensity and desire to those he coached.
Buttigieg also expressed his satisfaction that the Footwork School of Basketball had also obtained the services of Sandro Farrugia, known for his ability to teach the fundamentals of the game.
Mark Camilleri, Ian Curmi and Chris Sammut will join Farrugia in the coaching staff of the junior section. All three are young coaches who have experienced at least six years as players with Footwork and are in-tune with the club's philosophy of developing players in a unique educational environment.
