The Vittoriosa local council budget was cut as part of an effort to reduce the national deficit, the government said yesterday in response to the council's complaint.
In the statement it was also noted that, even though the reduction was of Lm2,189, the Vittoriosa council had an income of Lm4,325 from local enforcement, Lm21,333 from donations - which was among the highest in Malta - and it also has three workers from the dockyards and Ministry of Resources working with them, paid for by the government.
The government said it was also worth noting that the central government carried out various projects in Vittoriosa, including the restoration of the Palace of the Inquisitor, the restoration of the Maritime Museum and the restoration of various palaces.
