The warm air which has been prevailing over the central Mediterranean over the past few days has sent humidity levels soaring, making people think it was much hotter than yesterday's temperature of 34°C.

According to John Mallia, a spokesman for the Meteorological Office, the warm air over the sea had led to a lot of evaporation in the lower levels of the atmosphere. This meant that the humidity was so high that patches of fog formed and moved inland due to the light wind, enveloping parts of the island yesterday.
