A sachet containing drugs was discovered in the cell of a prison inmate and items connected to drug use were located in another cell on Tuesday, prison sources said.

The drug, which was not specified, was found in the cell of a man who is serving time on drug-related charges.

The finds were made during a search carried out in division five at 12.30 p.m. by the prison's Special Response Team.

The police drug squad was informed and Magistrate Michael Mallia appointed experts to assist in an inquiry.
