The Racing Committee of the Malta Canoe Federation (MCF) has just launched a series of sprint races leading up to the National Championships being held between September 7 and 8.

The series consists of races alternating over Olympic distances of 1,000m and 500m on Saturday afternoons at Marsamxett Harbour.

The main contenders in the single Kayak class (K1) Men's Open are veterans Julian Mamo, Joseph Cremona and Gerald DeGaetano and the promising Chris Camilleri who looks set to dominate the sport in the near future.

Iveta Leo is expected to repeat the success of 2003 but hopes for better competition this year.

In conjunction with the Open races, a separate series of 200m and 500m fun races are planned for beginners. For more information one may contact the federation by email at info@mcu.org.mt or phone 7939-2338.
