The Language Centre at the University of Limerick in Ireland held an in-service training course between July 5-16 for teachers of languages who are interested in using ICT (information and communication technology) as a learning tool in the classroom.

Loranne Vella, who teaches drama and English at St Aloysius' College, attended the 40-hour course which consisted primarily of seminars introducing such topics as internet, reference tools, authoring tools and concordances.

The second part of the course took the form of workshops, reflecting how teachers should integrate technology into their teaching and in their students' learning.

The course made it possible for the participants to develop a short pedagogical project in the area of their choice.

Ms Vella's participation in the in-service training course was financed by the Socrates Coordinating Committee - EUPU (European Union Programmes Unit) Comenius Action.
