Etnika's recent performance in the Roman amphitheatre of Sabratha, in Libya, will long be remembered by all those who attended. The music that the nine-member Maltese band played with the use of instruments such as it-tambur, iz-zaqq and flejguta thrilled the several hundreds of Libyans present in the semi-circular auditorium that included a good number of Maltese, foreign nationals and tourists.

I thank the group for giving us an evening to remember in a magnificent setting, the Libyan authorities for extending maximum hospitality and help to the group during its stay, and those Maltese companies operating in Libya that contributed financially to a fund set up by our embassy in Tripoli to make Maltese cultural events such as this possible.

As your reporter rightly said in his report (August 5), Etnika captivated the Sabratha audience with its wonderful blend of ethnic music, flamenco and modern jazz.

The band members could not describe the occasion better when they told your reporter that performing in the World Heritage site was an exhilarating and moving experience.
