I refer to the article with the above heading which we carried on July 25, in which we featured a letter sent by Ms Marianne Tabone about a front-to-rear bump incident she was involved in. We have now received comments from the police on the issue:

Reference is made to your letter dated May 26, 2003, regarding an alleged road incident involving Ms Marianne Tabone of St Paul's Bay.

Please accept my apologies for the delay in replying to your correspondence. This was mainly due to the fact that the information supplied to us lacked important details to enable us to determine the facts. Moreover, the identity of the police officer who received the verbal report was not divulged.

In such circumstances, as reported by Ms Tabone, you may wish to note that criminal action could have been instituted on the complaint of the injured party. This, on the grounds that the other driver had failed to exchange information with the third party, failed to fill in the "front to rear" collision form and, failed to file his claim with the insurance company within the next working day.

If I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me. (Assistant Commissioner Josie Brincat, Protective Services)

Since I was unable to contact Ms Tabone on the telephone I take the opportunity to inform her that, if she wishes to discuss the matter with Assistant Commissioner Brincat, he would be more than happy to discuss the matter with her. She may call him on 2294-0000.
