The Centru Rikreazzjoni Zghazagh Zurrieq is once again organising the 50-Hour Football Marathon between tomorrow and Sunday at the Zurrieq Primary School.

This year, the funds collected from this activity will be donated to the Life Cycle and Daughters of the Sacred Heart.

The marathon, sponsored by HSBC, not only aims to increase awareness among young people to indulge themselves in voluntary work, it also seeks to promote sports as a gateway to a healthy and active lifestyle.

Fifteen teams will take part in this marathon which will also include a tournament between eight women's teams and a small league for five nursery sides.

The opening ceremony of the marathon will be held tomorrow at 6 p.m. with the matches proper scheduled to kick off an hour later.

Spread over three days, the marathon programme also incorporates shows from the Armed Forces of Malta and the Police dog section, a typical Lejla Maltija and a variety show.

A game between teams made up of Maltese politicians will be played on Sunday before the final match of the tournament brings the marathon to a close at around 9 p.m.

Donations can also be made by sending an SMS on the following numbers: Lm 1 - 5061 7362; Lm 2 - 5061 8917; Lm 3 - 5061 9207.
