Maria Tonna, of Mqabba, is back from China where she won first prize in a painting competition in the Tianjin International Arts and Cultural International Festival.

Her painting featured a happy smiling girl, putting a hat on a puppy dog.

She was met at the airport by members of the Malta China Friendship Society, including Reno Calleja, president.

Ms Tonna also received a bronze medal on behalf of Andy Tonna, a l4-year-old boy from Mosta who won another prize in the same competition.

The visit of Ms Tonna and her father to China was made possible through the Malta China Friendship Society, the sister organisation of the Chinese Friendship Association for Friendship with Foreign People.

The Malta China Friendship Society is celebrating its 30th anniversary.
