The government was upgrading the main square and surrounding roads in Safi, Resources and Infrastructure Minister Ninu Zammit said yesterday.
He said the embellishment included demolishing the walls on either side of St Paul's church and reconstructing them to create greater symmetry.
The road opposite the Santa Marija chapel was pedestrianised and new benches installed and trees planted. The two roads at the sides of the Domus Curialis building were paved with concrete slabs.
Speaking to the press during an on-site visit, Mr Zammit said work would soon start on the gardens in Mqabba and Zurrieq. The ministry had also submitted an application to the Malta Environment and Planning Authority to create a promenade overlooking Wied Babu that would run all the way along Wied iz-Zurrieq.
