Some lights are out

Green means Go, Amber signifies change and Red means Stop, but when there are no lights, what is one supposed to do?

A number of traffic lights have been out of action for over two weeks because of spent bulbs and it is not known when these will be replaced.

One of the traffic lights on the Mriehel bypass has the green, red and amber lights spent, while another has the green bulb that is not showing. Traffic lights in other areas, including busy St Anne Street and Blata l-Bajda, also have spent bulbs.

Although the Malta Transport Authority (ADT) is responsible for the traffic lights, maintenance is carried out by the Marsa garage.

John Demicoli, the person in charge of the traffic lights at ADT said, when contacted yesterday, that the lights were always serviced by the Marsa garage, but they recently had a "temporary internal problem" and the ADT was chasing them to replace the faulty bulbs.

Mr Demicoli said traffic lights were inspected by ADT staff and reports were then passed on to the Marsa garage.

Asked how many pending cases of spent traffic light bulbs the ADT had with the Marsa garage, Mr Demicoli said he had no idea.
