Another 14 illegal immigrants, who were spotted drifting in a rubber dinghy by an Italian naval aircraft 74 nautical miles south west of Malta, were brought to Malta by the Armed Forces yesterday morning.

AFM Patrol Craft P51 was sent to the area to assist the immigrants while an AFM Islander aircraft patrolled the area.

The patrol boat spotted the immigrants' dinghy at around midnight and the 14 persons were taken on board.

The immigrants disembarked at the AFM Maritime Squadron base at Haywharf and were handed over to the Immigration Police for further investigations.

The immigrants are accommodated at Safi barracks.

The group, all men, consisted of seven Congolese, three from the Ivory Coast, two from Cameroon and one each from Togo and Sudan.
