One-lap races again proved to be fertile ground for Age-Group records on the penultimate day of the 2004 National Swimming Championships yesterday.

Daniel Galea, of Sliema ASC, followed up his record in the 50m breaststroke category 'A' on Friday, with a new mark in the 50m butterfly.

His time of 35.89 seconds was 0.79 seconds inside his own previous record of 36.68 set last April, a performance which further enhanced this lad's prospects of a bright future.

It was then the turn of Kim Attard to re-write the record statistics in the girls' 50m butterfly. The 12-year-old Neptunes swimmer clipped 0.12 seconds off the previous mark held by Lara Callus to post a time of 35.50 seconds.

There were several personal best times by the other swimmers but Kyle Scerri's 57.48 seconds in the 100m freestyle takes pride of place.

This time was only one-hundredth of a second outside the previous best in category 'D' for 16-17 years and Scerri, not yet 16, will now set his sights for the breakthrough in this and other events next season.
