A 50-hour football marathon in aid of Life Cycle and the Daughters of the Sacred Heart will kick off at Zurrieq primary school on Friday.

Sponsored by HSBC, the marathon is expected to end on August 8 at 9 p.m.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, the organising team, from the youth recreational centre (Centru Rikreazzjoni Zghazagh) of Zurrieq, said the aim of the marathon was to show solidarity through sport. "This is the seventh edition of this football marathon being organised by the youth centre. For the past months a number of young people from Zurrieq have been working towards achieving what they believe will be the best ever edition of this event," said the football marathon's coordinator Anton D'Amato.

Other activities besides football include ongoing music and a party featuring leading deejays and a Lejla Maltija.

Donations of Lm1, Lm3 and Lm5 may be sent via SMS as follows: Lm1 - 50617362, Lm3 - 50618917, Lm5 - 5061 9207. Donations can also be made during the marathon.
