The British High Commissioner, Vincent Fean, presented Sierra Leone refugee Mary Vandi Kamara with a cheque for Lm400 raised from the proceeds of a concert held at his residence.

Mrs Kamara's husband, Abdul Rahman, died in a traffic accident last November when a van lost control and skidded hitting him while he was waiting at a bus stop. They had two children: Mustapha, 17, and Hamza, 14.

The sad story moved Mr Fean to the extent that he decided to organise the concert and raise money in support of Mrs Kamara.

The family resides at the Emigrants' Commission, in Valletta.
