High Commissioner sees growing bonds

Over 150 guests and Chevening scholars attended the annual Chevening Alumni gala dinner at the Radisson Hotel, St Julians.

The event, which for the third year running was sponsored by Cable and Wireless, was organised by the British High Commission on behalf of the Chevening Alumni Association Malta.

A number of dignitaries from the political, educational and business sectors, including President Eddie Fenech Adami, attended the dinner.

Welcoming guests, British High Commissioner Vincent Fean said the ties which bound Malta and the United Kingdom together were already strong at all levels.

"Today we celebrate the growing strength of those ties. The European Union adds a new dimension to our relationship and stimulates increased cooperation between us, with the added bonus that from this autumn, Maltese and British students will be treated exactly the same when it comes to undergraduate and postgraduate study fees.

"We hope to see even more Maltese postgraduate students in the UK, complementing what they have learned at Malta's own prestigious university and contributing to that cross-fertilisation of experiences and ideas which enriches both our countries," Mr Fean said.

The Chevening Alumni Association Malta brings together those scholars who have in the past undertaken studies in the United Kingdom and comprise a number of leading Maltese personalities in various fields.

Any previous scholars who wish to join the Alumni Association are asked to contact the assistant press and public affairs officer at the British High Commission on 2323 0000.
