The European Movement (Malta) welcomed the decision by the University of Malta to start a two-year diploma course in Arabic.

The movement said it believed that if Malta wished to play a credible role in the region, it needed to cultivate and strengthen a cadre of individuals who were knowledgeable in Arabic and Arab culture.

Such courses also helped in the longer term towards fostering a better understanding of minority groups in Malta itself and improved tolerance.

The movement urged members of the business community to invest in their own future by taking up the opportunity and materially supporting it.
