Saturday, the second day of the Summer Trophy competition, had Krishna playing their first game and displaying an awesome batting technique which had them accumulating a high score against Overseas CC.

Krishna's main batsmen did well. Frank Spiteri hit 40, Chris Naudi 38, Alan Kyle smashed his way to 47 before being given out lbw and Sam Dhandapani made a fiery 36.

Aided by 41 extras, Krishna amassed an amazing 221 runs for the loss of four wickets.

Overseas were still positive after last week's run chase but this time Mike Fussell, top scoring with 66 not out, and his father Clive, 33 not out, were the only batsmen to take it up to the Krishna bowlers.

In the end, Overseas only managed 165 and lost the game by 56 runs. Kyle also took two wickets to complement his batting performance.

Krishna earned nine points for their win while Overseas had to settle for two to take their tally to 11 at the top of the standings.

In the second game SMJV bowled first against Marsa. After the previous disappointing batting performance, the latter were eager to do better. Had SMJV held on to their catches they could have bowled Marsa out well under a 100 runs. In-form Sarfraz Ali hit 49 not out. He was aided by Gordon Hewitt with 26 to take Marsa's total to 141.

For SMJV, Chris Aspden took three wickets in a fine bowling display. They looked confident but, in the end, only Keith Abernathy was able to make any runs with a 34.

Marsa bowled very tight. Mick Caruana claimed three wickets and Gordon Hewitt two as Ronnie Sacco displayed great outfield catching for the team.

Marsa bowled SMJV for the lowest score in the competition so far - 80. They are joint leaders with Overseas.

SMJV only earned one point which takes their tally to three at the bottom of the ladder. Melita and Krishna are equal second with nine points but have only played one game each.

On Saturday Marsa take on Krishna at 11 a.m. and Melita face SMJV at 2.30 p.m.
