In Malta animal safety laws are quite archaic. Owners of pets of any kind should be held responsible for their animal's welfare.

The safety of horses and ponies on our roads should be given immediate serious attention by the authorities.

Horse races in summer and on hard tarmac should be abolished. Karozzin horses should be provided with water and shelter without any more dithering.

Only by imposing stricter laws which are properly enforced, together with hefty fines will the respect that is due to all animals finally become a reality.
