If Lm1 million from the Lm9 million the government was spending on the embassy in Brussels went on a helicopter service between Malta and Gozo, many of the tourism problems in Gozo would start solving themselves, Labour leader Alfred Sant said yesterday.

He was speaking in Nadur during the unveiling of a commemorative plaque at the MLP club on the 10th anniversary of the death of former Labour MP Anglu Camilleri, known as il-Bedeq.

Dr Sant said tourism growth was vital for job creation in Gozo. Gozitans who had initiative and could help in job creation should be given all the necessary space. He pointed out that 52 per cent of Gozo's unemployed were youths.

Dr Sant praised the late Mr Camilleri for initiatives he had taken aimed a creating employment. Mr Camilleri, he said, had even shown himself strong when attempts were made to tempt him to betray his party.

The activity was attended by Gozitan Labour MPs Anton Refalo and Justyne Caruana, Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono, Nationalist MP Frederick Azzopardi and PN candidate Anton Tabone.
