The evening of June 2 was a special one for Dr Godwin Ganado Primary School, Mtarfa, as pupils celebrated their previous year's hard work during a prize-giving ceremony.

Staff, parents, pupils and distinguished guests sat through a varied programme prepared specially for this day by the teachers and the pupils. This day was, in actual fact, a celebration of diversity, as pupils showed off their different talents. This was done through songs performed by the school choir and pupils playing various instruments.

Everyone moved to Queen's remix of We will rock you where some pupils showed their skill at breakdance, while Shut up and Paloma blanca brought out the gymnastic abilities of others. The latter was also a protest against the killing of spoonbills at the Ghadira Bird Reserve.

The younger classes then performed in a mini-musical, written by their teachers, about the toy museum and what happened to the toys when everyone left in the evening. Here one must thank the parents and the school council members who sewed the lovely, colourful costumes.

Prizes were given by assistant director Marilyn Sciortino and these were not only awarded to those who excelled academically but also to those pupils who worked hard throughout the year and those who excelled in art and sports. Others were rewarded for their kindness, courtesy and good manners.

After the prize-giving ceremony, Ms Sciortino opened an exhibition of the pupils' work. Exhibits varied from craftwork to books made by the pupils themselves, science activities and design and technology projects. A section of the exhibition was dedicated to "Big Books and Story Sacks", produced by the parents who attended the FES Id f'Id course.
