I would like to address this letter to the owner of the beautiful but sick purebred Alsatian that was abandoned in Marsascala:
So you couldn't bear to put your beloved pet down, or maybe you were just too cheap as well as cowardly to pay a vet or the SPCA to do it for you and instead you drove your sick and dying pet out to Marsascala and abandoned it. Out of sight out of mind right?
Oh, I know your wife was probably telling you to get rid of that filthy, diseased animal and you were truly worried that your children might get a nasty disease from it but still you could have done the right thing and taken it to be humanely destroyed but instead you chose the easy way out, didn't you?
I wish you could have seen the result of your callous and insensitive decision. Your dog, sick and visibly distressed, went around and around the promenade at Marsascala using the very last of its strength to try and find you. Bewildered and confused it refused to believe that you had abandoned it to such a cruel and awful fate.
You made it the problem of every sensitive and caring person in Marsascala who saw it and who tried to help it and, believe me, there were at least a dozen people who tried to give it water and food and several who called the SPCA to come and take it in. Good people and the SPCA took the responsibility that should have been yours for your beautiful but sick dog.
I hope that when you go to church or sit down to a meal with your family you will give thanks to all the people who did their best for your animal and feel some shame for the fact that you didn't.
