Civil marriages on the increase

There were 812 civil marriages last year, compared to 481 in the year 2000, according to information given in parliament yesterday.

There were 474 civil marriages in 2001, 585 in 2002 and 812 in 2003.

Civil marriages this year up to July 13 numbered 397, of which 174 involved a foreign spouse.

The information was given by Home Affairs Minister Tonio Borg in reply to a parliamentary question by Labour MP Silvio Parnis.
