The prominence given to the renewal licence queues is unwarranted and only helps to encourage an irresponsible attitude which forms part of the Maltese way of life.
You seem to point a finger at the ADT when, in fact, all these queues are only the result of a general trend of the Maltese to leave things to the last minute and expect to be served promptly.
I have been driving for the last 30 years and I never had any difficulties in paying my road licence. The reason is simple.
As soon as I receive the renewal notice from my insurance I send my cheque by mail. I repeat this when I receive my insurance certificate a few days later. In this way I always have my road licence paid days ahead of my expiry date.
If everyone leaves the road licence renewal to the end of the month it is natural that we expect long queues at the licensing office. This story is repeated at the banks when pensioners rush to cash their cheques on the first day of encashment.
I see no reason why ADT should worry unduly about these queues since it has nothing to do with the problem. We Maltese have been spoon-fed for too long and it is a pity that we are encouraged in our archaic habits instead of calling upon us to mend our ways and grow up.
