Maltco Lotteries Ltd has successfully launched its operations as the new exclusive operator of the National Lottery licence in Malta and Gozo with a portofolio of games previously operated by the Department of Public Lotto. Currently Super Five, lotto and scratchers (instant tickets) are offered while sports betting and Keno will be launched in the near future.

Dr John Katakis, Maltco Lotteries' CEO, commented positively on the first week of operation in Malta and is satisfied with the progress registered in setting up the online lottery network using state-of-the-art multimedia type terminals, installed in all lotto booths in Malta and Gozo.

All the installed terminals are connected online, using ADSL communication lines, to a central system installed at the company's headquarters in L-Iklin, while a second similar system is installed at a different location to be used as a disaster recovery site to secure the continuous operation of the games under any circumstances.

The installation of the online lottery infrastructure together with the operational set-up lasted four months making sure that the players can play in a secure environment having all reassurances of transparency and credibility.

The player can now continue to play up to one hour before the draw. The lotto draw is held on Saturdays at 7.10 p.m. while Super 5 is drawn at the same time on Wednesdays. Both draws are supervised by the Notary Public, a representative from the Gaming Authority, members of the public as well as Maltco's draw supervisor and are broadcast live on TVM, Net TV and Super 1 every week.

Maltco Lotteries Ltd is run by a consortium whose shareholders are Intralot S.A. (Greece), and two Maltese companies, Players Group and ASL. Currently Maltco employs 50 people (95 per cent of them Maltese) with a total investment programme of Lm13 million upon its completion.
