The European Voice (July 8-14) has earmarked 30-year-old Labour MEP Joseph Muscat as one of 14 Members of the European Parliament from the ten new member states "who can be expected to make an impact" in Brussels and Strasbourg.

The influential newspaper, published by The Economist Group, picked 14 MEPs from scores of members from the ten new member states. Mr Muscat is the only Maltese member on the list. He is one of three members of the Party of European Socialists who were picked.

The European Voice remarked that Mr Muscat is the youngest member from Malta and obtained the highest number of votes on the Labour list.

Other MEPs mentioned along with Joseph Muscat are former Polish Prime Minister Jerzy Buzek, former Estonian Foreign Affairs Minister Toomas Ilves and the Speaker of the Slovenian Parliament, Borut Pahor.
