Cassar, Busuttil resign from MOC Executive Committee
Pierre Cassar and Clarence Busuttil have resigned from the Executive Committee of the Malta Olympic Committee (MOC).
A statement from the MOC said that the resignations of Mr Cassar and Dr Busuttil were discussed and eventually accepted at the Olympic body's last council meeting held on Monday.
"Dr Busuttil and Mr Cassar have fulfilled their functions on the MOC Executive to the best of their abilities," the statement, signed by MOC secretary Joe Cassar, said.
"Due to increasing pressure of work, they decided to hand in their resignation as they felt they cannot continue to contribute as much as the workload at the MOC requested," the statement added.
Moving swiftly to replace the former officials, the MOC council has co-opted Antonio Mizzi, the president of the Malta Basketball Association, and John Schembri to the Executive Committee.
Magistrate Mizzi's principal role will be to assist the president of the MOC and other directors as the need arises and Schembri, the president of the Malta Archery Association, has assumed Mr Cassar's duties as Media and Communications Officer.
During the MOC meeting, the Malta Canoe Federation (MCF) and Malta Table Football Sports Association (MTFSA) were accepted as full members. These two bodies have been recognised as national associations by the MOC for several years.
