Malta and Saudi Arabia are discussing a draft cooperation agreement.

This follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding on political dialogue in April last year.

Talks on the cooperation agreement were conducted by a Maltese delegation headed by Foreign Affairs Minister Michael Frendo and a Saudi Arabian mission led by Ismail Al-Shura, Under Secretary at the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Dr Frendo emphasised the importance of Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Gulf countries vis-à-vis Malta's foreign policy especially in the light of Malta's EU membership.
