Contact Dance Company is again hosting a choreographer and dance teacher to inspire Maltese dancers with new moves.

Dancer, choreographer, teacher and video producer Michael Joseph from the UK is conducting a four-day intensive dance/movement workshop and creating a new work for CDC.

Mr Joseph has an extensive dance background and has been performing with his company, Union Dance, for the past 18 years, touring globally and redefining cutting-edge contemporary dance styles.

Union Dance had performed in Malta at the Manoel Theatre in 1999. He has collaborated with international choreographers, composers and film-makers to create a rich experience that breaks conventional boundaries.

His workshop is aiming to embrace cultural diversity, such as street dance, martial arts and, in particular, eastern styles like Aikido, Tai Chi Chuan and Kung Fu influences. It is also incorporating Capoeira from Brazil and utilising Hip Hop flavours.

The most important factor of his work is that the participants have a thorough knowledge of their bodies and how to move them to be competent in partner work.

The workshop is being held at The Dance Workshop this week.
