I had the opportunity this year to be at Luqa's feast of St Andrew. I must say it was a most beautiful feast and that the village showed a spirit of community and unity.

It appeared from the way the celebrations took place that the spirit of intolerance that used to permeate similar occasions has completely disappeared and now people take part in such celebrations in order to enjoy themselves with everyone.

Of course, signs of pique will remain but from what one could see during the days of the feast such signs are being contained and controlled by the hard work of the parish priest, priests, the mayor and the council, the band club committees and, above all, the civic sense of the residents of the village. The village of Luqa has been blessed in that it has one feast, that being of the patron saint of the village, St Andrew the Apostle.

There are two band clubs and both take a most active part in the feast.

Many parish priests, over the years, considered it their primary duty to work on bringing further unity among the people during the feast and it has been appearing for a long time that this combined work is leaving its desired fruits.

The village of Luqa has shown itself to be a shining example for other villages to imitate. Well done.
